 Decline seen in Swedish Genital Warts Rate Among Women reports Genital-Warts-Treatment info   Health San Francisco, CA- September 26, 2012 -Instances of genitals warts have dropped by 17% among women ages 15-25. The drop was over a five-year period spanning from 2006 to 2010. Rates in men remained consistent. Amy Leval of Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm said the finding is likely a sign of the vaccine working. She cautions that not enough women have been vaccinated to men to be successfully protected. The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the cause of the genital warts, and certain  strains can lead to cervical cancer. Many of the cancer-causing strains have no noticeable signs in men, making its presence and subsequent heightened risk of penile and anal cancers more difficult to note.
